Debinha scored twice and Courage down Dash 4-3

It said: ‘Given the current state of upheaval in the industry and the uncertain outlook, it is difficult to justify a payment equal to around 92 per cent of maximum opportunity to the chief executive, regardless of performance.’

Liverpool restored their lead in the 20th minute and this time Leeds had only themselves to blame, leaving the obvious threat of Virgil van Dijk unchallenged with the towering Dutchman heading home an Andy Robertson corner.

It was cruel on Leeds but the Yorkshire club will take huge encouragement from their display while Liverpool, now unbeaten in 60 league games at Anfield, are up and running again. (Reporting by Simon Evans, editing by Pritha Sarkar)

Aina’s signing follows the capture of midfielder Harrison Reed, goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, right back Kenny Tete and midfielder Mario Lemina and left back Antonee Robinson while winger Anthony Knockaert’s loan move was made permanent.

O’Leary’s cash bonus was around 92 per cent of the maximum he could have received and took his total remuneration for the year to March to €3.5million – including €2.5million under a long-term incentive plan.

Bielsa did not actually look that delighted when he arrived to talk at the end of it all. ‘You can never be happy in defeat,’ he said, when somebody pointed this out. But he knew what this performance meant.

Juergen Klopp’s side grabbed a fourth minute lead after referee Michael Oliver harshly ruled that Leeds’ debutant German defender Robin Koch had handled a Salah shot which deflected off his thigh on to his outstretched arm.

CARY, N.C. (AP) – Debinha scored twice, including the winner in the 86th minute, and the North Carolina Courage downed the Houston Dash 4-3 in a National Women’s Soccer League fall series match Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but it was moved to the national CBS broadcast window Saturday after the game between the Portland Thorns and OL Reign was postponed because of poor air quality caused by the wildfires in Oregon.

After Sophie Schmidt scored in the 70th to give Houston back the lead, Lynn Williams timed her run well and scored in the 83rd minute to tie it again for the Courage.
Three minutes later, Debinha scored her second goal for the victory.

LIVERPOOL, England, Sept 12 (Reuters) – Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, as Liverpool began their Premier League title defence with a hugely entertaining 4-3 win over promoted Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday.

Leeds felt for a moment they were level again when, after Harrison’s lob over an advancing Alisson, Alexander-Arnold bizarrely headed into his own goal but the linesman subsequently flagged for offside.

But he provided all the thinking behind the goal which put Leeds back at 3-3: the ball wide to Helder Costa, the gesture to precisely where he wanted it back and the crashing half volley beyond Alisson.

Leeds, making their return to the top flight after a 16-year absence, fought back from behind three times and played the brand of intense, attacking football that their Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa established during their promotion campaign last season.

Steve Evans would not even give him a place on the bench. Bielsa simply couldn’t fathom why the player was playing in the forward line and not shielding defence. The quality and speed of his distribution on Saturday night suggests he will be another fine addition to this division.

Salah, sporting a new short hair-cut, blasted Liverpool back in front, 12 minutes before the break, when he pounced on an attempted header clear from Pascal Struijk with a first-time shot which gave Illan Meslier no chance.

But eight minutes later Jack Harrison, on loan from Manchester City, brought Leeds level with a fine solo goal, picking the ball up on the left-flank and cutting inside, skipping past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, before drilling into the bottom corner.

A season beginning with fans still barred from the grounds due to COVID-19 restrictions needed a start to spark some excitement among frustrated fans and this high-energy, incident-packed encounter certainly delivered.

Leeds commanded more possession than Liverpool on Saturday night. No-one has left Anfield with that statistic in the past few years. ‘It’s just uncomfortable,’ Jurgen Klopp admitted afterwards. ‘They kill you in a football way. They just don’t stop.’
